WEATHER OVER DELHI DURING JUNE 2008

Temperatures:-

The month of June was characterized by below normal temperatures.  Both the Maximum and the Minimum temperatures remained below normal. The average maximum temperature during the month was 35.0O C, which is an all time low mean maximum temperature for the month since 1901, the previous lowest mean maximum temperature being 35.2 O C for June 1925.  The mean temperature for the month was 30.9 O C (Mean Maximum 35.0 O C, Mean Minimum 26.7 O C) which was again the lowest mean temperature for the month of June for Delhi. However, the same value was recorded in the year 1925 also (Mean Maximum 35.2 O C, Mean Minimum 26.5 O C).

Thus June 2008 turned out to be the coldest June in the recorded history of the city. It was primarily because of higher than normal pre-monsoon rainfall during the first half of the month and early onset of Monsoon.

Rainfall:-

This year the Monsoon advanced over Delhi on 15 June which is the earliest onset date since 1901.  The earlier record was 16 June in 1998.  The city received rainfall on 19 days during the month.  The total rainfall recorded during the month was 91.6 mm against an average of 55.0 mm.
