MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS (recorded during past 24 hours)

 

·    Widespread rainfall has occurred over Konkan and Goa, Saurashtra & Kutch, Coastal Karnataka and fairly widespread over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

·    The chief amounts of rainfall in cm (≥3 cm) recorded at 0830 hours IST of today are:

Mahabaleshwar-13, Mumbai (Clb)-12, Nalia-9, Mumbai (Scz), Porbandar, Bulsar and New Kandla-8 each, Rajkot and Amraoti-7 each, Jammu and Harnai-6 each, Rewa, Dahanu, Satara and Veraval-5 each, Rohtak, Jabalpur, Alibagh and Darjeeling-4 each, Okha, Gangtok, Dwarka, Gondia, Majbat, Lumding, Dharamshala and Mandla-3 each.

·      KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery at 0830 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh, Central & southeast Bay of Bengal, north Andaman Sea and northeast Arabian Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over remaining parts of the country except west Rajasthan and Tamilnadu.

Synoptic features (based on 0830 hrs IST)

 

·         The low pressure area over west Madhya Pradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan is less marked. However, the associated upper air cyclonic circulation in lower levels persists over the same area.

·         The axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Phalodi, Kota, Guna, Umaria, Ambikapur, Digha and thence southeast wards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

·         An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Gujarat extending upto mid tropospheric levels.

·         Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Orissa and neighbourhood between 1.5 Km and 4.5 Km above mean sea level.

·         The off shore trough from Gujarat coast to Kerala coast persists.

 

Major features of weather forecast (upto 0830 hours IST of 04 September, 2010)

 

·         Widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Konkan and Goa during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter.

·         Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands with decrease in rainfall activity over Gujarat after 24 hours.

·         Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours and increase thereafter.

·         Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Chhattisgarh, Orissa, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Vidarbha during next 48 hours and increase thereafter.

 

Warning

·         Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur over Konkan & Goa and south Gujarat during next 24 hours and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 48 hours.

 

Weather Outlook (upto 0830 hours IST of 06 September, 2010)

 

·         Fairly widespread rainfall activity would continue over northeastern states, northwest & central India, Andhra Pradesh, west coast and Vidarbha.

·         An upper air cyclonic circulation likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal around 3rd September 2010 and under its influence a low pressure area may develop around 4th.
