MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS

(Recorded during past 24 hours)

·  Minimum temperatures are above normal by 4-6 o C over most parts of plains of northwest India, west & central India, Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. They are below normal by 2-5 o C over some parts of Western Himalayan region, by 2-3 o C over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and near normal over rest of the country.

Synoptic features (based on 1430 hrs IST Observations)

·            The active western disturbance will continue over Western Himalayan region and parts of adjoining plains of northwest India during next 24 hours.

Numerical weather prediction (NWP) Guidance

·     A fresh western disturbance will affect Western Himalayan region from 12th onwards.

Satellite Observations:

   KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery 1430 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. Low/medium clouds over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh.

Major features of weather forecast (upto 1430 hours IST of 12th February, 2010)

·      Widespread rain/snow will occur over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter.

·      Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours.

·      Minimum temperatures would fall by 3-4o C over northwest India from tomorrow onwards.

·      Fall in maximum temperatures by 3-6oC over plains of northwest and adjoining east India during next 24 hours.

·      Dry weather conditions over remaining parts of the country.

Warning: (for next 24 hours)

·      Heavy to very heavy rain/snow at isolated places will occur over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

·      Isolated hail storm may occur over Jammu division of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Weather Outlook (upto 1430 hours IST of 14th February, 2010)

·      Scattered light to moderate rain/snow would occur over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

·      Isolated rain/ thundershower will occur over Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

·      Dry weather conditions will prevail over remaining parts of the country.
