The particulars of any arrangement that exists for
consultation with, or representation by, the members of the public in relation
to the formulation of its policy or implementation thereof.
India Meteorological Department (IMD)
is a subordinate department under the Ministry of Science & Technology.
There is a standing Parliamentary Committee for Science & Technology that
periodically monitors the functioning of various units of the department. In addition, queries raised or information
sought by Hon’ble members of both Houses of the Parliament are promptly replied
to in relation to the activities of the department. IMD also participates in the public awareness programs on natural
disasters meant for general public, school children, etc.All communications
received direct from the general public are promptly replied to by the
concerned units of the department.
The formulation of policies and the
implementation thereof in respect of scientific and technical matters relating
to India Meteorological Department are made in consultation with the Department
of Science & Technology and/or under the guidance of the Council for
Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (CMAS).
As regards the policies and the
implementation thereof in respect of the general administration, establishment,
purchase, etc. are concerned, the department follows the normal guidelines laid
down by Government of India with due approval of Department of Science &
Technology/Ministry of Science & Technology, where applicable and
necessary.
