Publications
IMD
has wealth of valuable data and information in the field of meteorology
and allied subjects gathered over a period of over a hundred years
in the form of departmental publications published as Memoirs of IMD,
India Weather Review, atlases and charts, instructions manuals, weather
codes, scientific and technical notes, climatological tables, meteorological
monographs, forecasting manuals, scientific reports, weather reports
and a large number of other miscellaneous publications. IMD publications
have been benefiting a large number of national and international
user-interests including departmental officials, central and State
Government agencies, scientists and research scholars of various educational
universities and institutions and the general public.
IMD
has been publishing, since January 1950, a quarterly research journal
first entitled the Indian Journal of Meteorology and Geophysics and
now known as "Mausam". It publishes results of scientific results in
the field of meteorology and allied subjects. The journal has grown
in quality, scope and popularity in India as well as abroad.
IMD
has been annually publishing Rashtriya Panchangs in English and other
Indian languages. Indian Astronomical Ephemeris is also brought out
annually.
IMD
maintains two major libraries located at New Delhi and Pune which
have the finest collections in India in Meteorology and allied subjets.
Awards:
In
order to encourage high quality research in Meteorology, the Government
of India instituted a “Biennial MAUSAM Award” in 1960, for the best
paper published in Mausam during a two-year period. The award consists
of a citation and a cash prize of Rs.35,000 to each author. Another
biennial award entitled “MAUSAM SHODH PURASKAR” was instituted by
the Government of India in January 1994 exclusively for the best scientific
research paper in Hindi by the department scientists published in
Mausam. The award consists of a citation and a cash prize of Rs.5,000.
