  1. Indian Ocean and Southern Hemisphere Analysis Centre (INOSHAC) prepares extended area Synoptic Charts for the region covering 50º S to 45º N and 20ºE to 155º E. The mean sea level chart is prepared 4 times a day while the upper wind and temperature charts for the levels 850, 700, 500, 300, 200 & 100 hPa are prepared twice daily. Mean sea level charts covering the Antarctica region are also prepared twice daily.

 

  1. For the safety Net Met. Area VIII (N) issues daily two GMDSS bulletins in fair weather. In disturbed weather (cycle etc) extra bulletins are issued every three hours. These bulletins are compiled and originated from the INOSHAC Section of Office of DDGM (WF), Pune and transmitted to DGM (Telecom) New Delhi through NHAC New Delhi for its onward transmission on Global Channel through Land Earth Station (LES) Arvi via IMARSET/NAVTEX.

 

  1. INOSHAC issues daily two bulletins in fair weather for Indian Navy in the form of fleet forecast for the area 10º S to 5º N and 60º E to 100º E. In case of disturbed weather (depression onward) frequency is increased and additional bulletins (2 to 6) are also issued depending upon the need.

 

  1. INOSHAC issues two sea weather bulletins daily for the South Indian Ocean and Northwest Pacific for departmental exchange, to familiarize with the events in the area.

 

  1. The section prepares the following inputs for the Annual Monsoon Review Meeting for the period June to September every year:

 

    1. Cross Equatorial flow from the southern hemisphere week by week (within ± 5º of equatorial)
    2. System in the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea and South Indian Ocean week by week.
    3. Strength of Mascarene and Australian Highs month wise and their anomalies.
    4. Movement of upper air troughs at 500 and 300 hPa levels in the upper air westerlies, penetrating from both the hemisphere between 30º N to 30º S over Indian region.
